Why baking soda?
Baking soda is a powder derived from salt that can be used in many areas, including home, to remove stains on laundry, to remove encrusted deposits on dishes, or even to remove odors in the fridge, for example!
It is however for its soft abrasiveness that it is an asset for the oral hygiene.
It is indeed able to polish the teeth to erase the tasks caused by the coffee, the cigarette or even the tea: it erases the yellowing due to the consumption of all these products to make the smile more brilliant.
If baking soda is also popular for washing and whitening teeth, it is also much more affordable than any whitening cream found in supermarkets or online.

The fact that it is abrasive also allows it to remove some of the plaque. Its action is global: in addition to making teeth whiter.
It helps to keep a healthy mouth, even if it obviously does not fight the bacteria and attacks that the teeth undergo as can a toothpaste!
There is no more fear to be had in case of accidental ingestion: even if you swallow it, it does not represent any danger for the body!
Caution : There are still some precautions to take before using baking soda to whiten your teeth.
Even if its abrasiveness is soft, using it too much regularly or rubbing too hard can damage tooth enamel.
That is why it is better to always have the approval of your dentist, who is the only one able to know if we have teeth and enamel sufficiently strong and resistant.
Similarly, the use of baking soda is not compatible with the presence of a dental appliance since it is capable of dissolving the glue.
How to use baking soda to wash and whiten teeth?
To wash and whiten your teeth with baking soda, here is the method to follow.
Step 1: Mix the baking soda with water
Half a teaspoon of baking soda is enough to get a good mix.
The easiest way is to pour it into a cup or other small container and add a few drops of water (it is also possible to add lemon instead, to give flavor to the future preparation).
The goal is to form a paste that can be easily applied to the teeth.
Small tip: To simplify the preparation, you can also directly immerse a wet toothbrush in the baking soda. It clings to the bristles of the brush, forms the paste, and can then easily be applied to the teeth!
Step 2: Apply the mixture to the teeth
For optimum efficiency, the mixture should be carefully applied to the teeth.
For this step, you can use your fingers as well as a toothbrush.
Moreover, the toothbrush can better distribute the paste on all teeth, if you want to achieve a whitening effect on all teeth.
Small tip: The effect is even better when the teeth are dry when applying the paste! So do not hesitate to wipe them first to remove traces of saliva.
Step 3: Brush your teeth
Once the teeth are covered with the dough, they must be brushed. Nothing unusual in this stage.
it is just necessary to reproduce the daily brushing, without rubbing too hard.
Insisting nevertheless on the interdental spaces (that is to say the gaps between the teeth).
for a unified whiteness. Brushing should not exceed 2 minutes, because of the abrasiveness of the baking soda, not to damage the tooth enamel.
To note: It is at this stage we realize taste not necessarily very pleasant in the mouth of baking soda. Hence the idea of replacing water with lemon! It must, however, be used in small quantities since it also has an abrasive effect on the teeth.
Step 4: Rinse your mouth
Once the brushing is done, all you have to do is spit out the baking soda and rinse your mouth with water to remove all the leftover dough.
This rinsing must also concern the toothbrush: it must be cleaned well after using it for this whitening care so that it does not remain above any residue of bicarbonate when you brush again teeth with his usual toothpaste.
Step 5: Repeat the operation 2 days later
For whiter teeth, it is necessary to repeat this operation 2 days later.
And after that every 2 days also for 1 to 2 weeks. If bleaching is noticeable after a few days.
It is only after 2 weeks that the results are clearly visible.
Once these two weeks have passed, it is necessary to space the uses of this paste (every two days to only once or twice a week), again to protect the enamel.
To note The preparation, which contains in fact only baking soda, replaced by no daily brushing with conventional toothpaste.
It usually has fluoride that protects the teeth and fights against the appearance of caries, so do not abandon it!
Other recipes with baking soda
To wash and whiten your teeth, the water + baking soda mixture is not the only one that exists. There are other preparations, especially to strengthen the whitening power.
Baking soda + hydrogen peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide, also known as hydrogen peroxide, is another indoor product that helps make teeth whiter and enhance the power of baking soda.
It is used in the same way as water: either the toothbrush is immersed in it, or it is incorporated in the half-spoon of bicarbonate, always in order to form a paste.
The following steps are also exactly the same (application/ brushing/rinsing).
Small tip: To avoid any danger if part of the dough is accidentally swallowed, hydrogen peroxide should be a 3% solution. Moreover, this solution can also serve as an antibacterial mouthwash, with proven effectiveness.
Baking soda + white vinegar
White vinegar has the ability to remove scale from the teeth. Combined with baking soda.
It can make teeth whiter by going beyond the simple tasks of coffee, cigarette or tea.
To create this paste, you must dissolve half a spoon of bicarbonate in a few drops of white vinegar, adding a small pinch of salt.
After applying it to your teeth and brushing them, you must rinse your mouth and clean your toothbrush. It must be reused immediately, but this time for a brushing with its usual toothpaste.
Baking soda + toothpaste
To create your own whitening toothpaste, it is also quite possible to sprinkle some baking soda on your usual toothpaste already placed on the toothbrush.
The brushing then directly combines the protective powers of fluorine with whitening qualities of bicarbonate.
Rinsing the mouth should, however, be done carefully, to remove all traces and residues. It’s the same with the toothbrush.
To note: The rate of use of this toothpaste “homemade” should also remain the same as in an independent preparation: every 2 days for 2 weeks, then only 1 to 2 times a week.
Baking soda + strawberry
It is the most original preparation, and probably the most tasty! As strawberries are also known for their whitening qualities on the teeth.
Combining them with baking soda makes it possible to prepare an even better dough.
For this, it is necessary to take a ripe strawberry and mix or crush it to turn it into pulp. Then, just add this pulp to the half-spoon of baking soda and follow all the usual steps.
