Differences between a website and a blog

From a technical point of view, a web and a blog are not different things. Both need a hosting for (space on a server) and a domain (URL or web address) to be on the internet. In fact, you can integrate a blog within a web page. As many companies do to attract user traffic to your corporate website through a content marketing strategy.

Basically, the difference between a web page and a blog is in the content and structure:

web page usually tends to have a more corporateinstitutional or commercial focus

In a web we usually put  static sections with our services, offers, rates, galleries, products, contact data, etc. The contents of the web, as a general rule. They are updated less frequently and users do not usually share them on social networks unless they include some valuable content.

blog has a more personal approach. The contents of a blog are the entries or articles. These items should contain the value in themselves, rather than a clearly commercial intention.

With this, you get users to share your content if it is really useful, and thus attract traffic to your site. A blog usually updates quite often, because it is to publish with some regularity.

WordPress is without a doubt one of the most known and used CMS (website editor) in the world. Indeed, more than a quarter of the websites work under WordPress.

WordPress.com

WordPress.com

If you want to create a website or blog completely free, that is, without paying a single dollar. You can choose WordPress.com. This free version of the tool allows you to create your site in a short time.

And with a great result, without needing advanced knowledge, because the installation is automatic.

Within this .com version you can take advantage of many of the classic WordPress features: choose from several predefined templates, assign categories to posts, create custom menus, etc.

On the other hand, you can not install the famous WordPress plugins and you have some limitation when it comes to customizing the template. Especially if you know code and want to squeeze the possibilities of the theme.

In addition, by default, the URL includes the extension /wordpress.com, which is not entirely professional.

However, this /wordpress.com can be removed from the URL by paying a small amount, among many other extensions that you can make to the tool after payment.

This option is perfect for bloggers who just start and want to start a personal blog quickly, focusing primarily on the content, above the design and functionalities.

WordPress.org

If you want to create a more advanced website in terms of design, functionality, etc., we strongly recommend that you choose WordPress.org . With this version you will need to have your own domain, that is, a URL for your website, and a hosting, that is, a server with enough space to host it.

Another important advantage is its universality: there is a huge community of developers of the tool that ensure its proper functioning and optimization, as well as the creation of plugins for almost anything you can think of. And almost all of them free.

Best free Blogging platform in Online

Best free Blogging platform in Online

If you do not want to spend money but at the same time you want a reliable and quality platform you can opt for tools like the ones listed below:

WordPress.com

The free version of WordPress to create your website, especially focused on blogs. You do not need to pay for hosting or domain, although you can not count on the infinity of options offered by the .org version. (paying a series of improvements you can expand your server space, buy your own domain, increase personalization options, etc.). Ideal to start in the world of blogs.

Blogger

One of the classics. Blogger was one of the first online tools for content publishing. It allows a lot of personalization by directly accessing the code of the template. But for a non-expert code user it becomes a more complicated option if a professional result is intended.

Medium

Medium

Medium is a new social network designed to generate quality content and that is beginning to grow a lot. Its strong point is the possibility of creating an aesthetically attractive blog for free, inspired by premium online publications. It offers a lot of interaction to promote your content, shared edition, collections, etc.

Tumblr

Tumblr is a free microblogging platform that allows you to create a website or blog and upload all kinds of content such as texts, photos, audios and videos, appointments, links, etc. Being a social network encourages interaction and dissemination of the content through blogs, likes, and comments. Also, if you are a slightly more advanced user, you may find it useful to modify the HTML code of the page.

How to Start Blogging with Coding Knowledge

Finally, if you are very expert, you can create a website without any previous platform, that is, directly with HTML, CSS, PHP, Jquery, etc. and using code editing software. The main tools for manual editing of code that we recommend are:

To make a website with code you need to be a true specialist and have a lot of previous experience.

The main drawback if you choose this option, apart from the difficulty, is that the development times can be extended.

To avoid this, we recommend that you use a predesigned template on which to start working.

Why should you NOT start a blog on a free platform?

In a simple way, I will never recommend someone who wants to start a blog to use a free platform with the extensions of Blogger or WordPress.com. While said, there is no content barrier and no initial cost to you, there are many concerns that could cost you more in the long term. If you can, then you should always host your blog.

When something is free, You are the product

Did you know this saying? , a platform like Blogger or WordPress.com free, can close or fall at any time, without prior notice or way to recover its content. A minor indiscretion, such as the use of an image without the correct consent, can cause your site to be deleted and there is no way to recover it.

Without customization

The use of ALL the complements and free features is very limited. And if you want to personalize your free theme to stand out in the crowd, just forget it. You can not do this in WordPress.com ( free version of WordPress ).

Unprofessional

Many of the free blogging platforms do not allow you to have a custom domain that offers an unprofessional appearance to potential customers and subscribers. You are also very limited with the level of personalization you can make to your blog so that your website looks like everyone else’s.

It is difficult to make money with your blog when you do not own the domain or hosting

Most free blog platforms will not allow you to place any ads or affiliate links on your site. So how can you make money from the traffic you are working hard to build? Answer: There is no possibility.

Many limitations

Free blog platforms give you very little in terms of web space. You can have 5GB if you’re lucky. For today’s websites, this is not enough when you consider uploading images and videos to your blog posts.

So, what should I collect from this guide so far?

Simple. Do not choose to create a free blog, since it will restrict it at each stage.

If you think that starting your blog on a free platform now and moving to a payment solution later is the best way to move forward, think again! Migrating your free blog from a free blog platform to a better paid option can be very difficult and time-consuming.

What should you do when creating a blog?

The best way to move forward is to build your blog on a platform like WordPress, where you will own your website and its content 100% because it is hosted by your account and has its own professional / personal domain name. You will not have any limitations and you are free to monetize your website, which is vital if you want to earn money online from your blog.

Paying web hosting for your blog is not very expensive and can cost as little as $ 5 per month for very simple hosting packages. Having a reliable web hosting provider will mean that your site receives a backup regularly and you have rights to recover your website for any reason.

Why We recommend WordPress.org when starting a blog

Well, to begin with, my website www.topwebhostingoffer.com is created in WordPress.org and more than 35% of all websites and blogs on the Internet are made in WordPress.

In recent years, I have worked with all well-known blog platforms, but I always recommend WordPress to blog entrants because of the community’s great support and ease of use.

It’s incredibly easy to configure

You will see how easy it is later in this How to start a blog guide. To give you an idea of how simple it is, my 9-year-old daughter created her own blog with the help of CERO from her expert father (that’s me, by the way).

It is not very complicated to use

Manage your blog, add content, add images, modify content and much more can be done with absolute ease in WordPress. The platform has an extremely intuitive interface, so you can add new pages, blog posts, etc. very quickly. Out of the box, WordPress marks most of the boxes you will need for your new blog and, if you do not, there is probably a plugin available for you.

Blogging is at the heart of WordPress.

WordPress was designed and created for bloggers as a blog platform, so all the capabilities and functionalities of blogs are already integrated and waiting for it. If you want to set up email subscriptions to your blog, then this can be added through an add-on in a matter of seconds. That’s the good thing about WordPress, you can literally set up your blog and publish your first blog in a matter of minutes.

You have full control of the blog or website

With WordPress, you have total control over your site. Do not wait for a web designer or developer to modify its content. You can simply log in to your control panel and make changes yourself.

It has excellent community support

The WordPress community is vast, vibrant and will always be willing to help. Check out their support forums to see how good it is.

Let’s Start Your Blog- Now-Start a WordPress blog the right way

Some time ago I wanted to make one of those posts, one of these blogging guides that I would have liked to have when I started with this world of  digital marketing . A post that gives me all the steps to follow to start a blog.

This is an ideal material for all beginning bloggers.

With the need to help other bloggers, this article arises that I really hope you will be very helpful.

Before starting to consider each of the steps to follow, let me give you some advice. Your first blogger to blogger tip

If you have not started with your digital project and you are sure that it is what you want, there is no better time to start now.

Today is the opportunity , surely tomorrow will be very late.

And this I say from experience.

I took a long time to start and I should have done it before. We all make mistakes.

The knowledge is learned as one is encouraged, there are many elements that are beyond our reach and that we will only face when we are acting.

This is the order that I try to follow in each of my projects. It is not necessary that you do it this way but it is important that you have each of these steps very much in mind.

Chapter 1: Choose your niche carefully.

Choosing a niche is never easy.

Sometimes you have it clear (like me, I felt a lot of passion for digital marketing) other times not so much.

Some advise that you write about what you like, others that you do not since it is not always what works.

Both parties are right.

Choose a niche market with which you know you will feel comfortable for years. Do not think so much about the present and look a little further.

Chapter 2: Analyze your present and future potential.

Do you see yourself creating content on that topic for years? Will it have relevance in the future?

On the other hand, you should also evaluate if it is profitable. That is, if people have an interest in what you write and organically search for it in Google .

Generally one has a notion of what is sought and what is not.

google-trends

If you need help you can use Google Trends .

Google Trends is a free tool that lets you see how much you are talking about that product, sector or business and if it’s worth it

Also as I said before, you know if what you are passionate about generates interest.

You could also try platforms like the Google Keyword Planner or some SEO platformto analyze if the topics you want to write about in your blog are searched.

Surely, it is very difficult that this does not happen. However platform to the interesting thing is to see also how sought after are those topics.

There are thousands of other tips on this topic.

Chapter 3: Choose web domain name

A web domain is the name that your site carries. It is the address that will lead to your online page. In my case it is:topwebhostingoffer.com

Choosing your domain can be difficult.

Why? Because we hesitate a lot to choose the correct name.

Generally we want to use the perfect domain and that’s why we think, think and think what can be that magic name that will encompass everything we want to talk about.

Many times the most important thing is to move forward and not stay stuck thinking about a domain.

That is another of the things that I tell you from experience.

Chapter 4: See if your name is available on social networks

I am a person who likes to have everything under control. And surely for many people this point 4 is total stupidity. Not for me

If you want to create the website of a company (and still do not know what name you can put) I recommend you choose a name and then see if it is enabled to use in different social networks.

This will make the user remember your name and it will make it easier for you to have the same username in all the networks you are on.

Obviously achieving this is increasingly difficult because every day that passes more and more names are being occupied. But it’s a matter of trying.

If you want to establish a personal brand you probably already have your, social networks with your name. If you want you can search for a username that identifies you on all networks.

Chapter 5: Create a logo for your blog

Maybe you know about design, maybe not.

The idea of creating a logo is to start establishing a brand. There are companies and people who work very well on this issue.

If you do not know how to create a logo you can always (for a few dollars) hire a designer in Fiverr and specify the design you have in mind for him or her to do it.

logos-en-fiverr

The good thing would be that the logo appears in each of your public social networks for people to associate with your company or personal brand.

Chapter 6: Choose the colors that will identify you

Each company has its own colors. Each brand or website uses specific color palettes. In the case of this blog we use red and white, for example.

It is important that your logo, your colors, your social networks and your website are unified to provide the same experience in terms of design, typography and colors.

I reiterate, this is what I recommend. Maybe you do not care, and maybe you do not consider it a must. I do, because I’ve seen that it gives its results, that’s why I include it in this guide for bloggers.

If you want to try colors you can use one of the web tools I recommend, it’s called Coolors. It is very useful to see which colors combine best and to try new designs.

Every time I have to start a new project I go to this tool to determine the colors that I can choose for the venture or to help any of the companies with their branding.

Chapter 7: Choose reliable web hosting for your blog

The hostings are one of the essential pieces to build a profitable business. Without a hosting you can not store data on your website.

Because of this, it would be very good if you can spend a few dollars to hire a quality hosting.

Why?

Because sometimes we need help . Sometimes we do not know all the technical details and we can not be searching on Google whenever a problem arises. And I assure you, you will have many. It is the most normal.

If I have to choose one, I’ll stay with BlueHost. They have shown real interest in helping. I have even moved most of my webs for this hosting.

These are the ones I recommend, there are millions of different options to choose from.

We must prioritize what we need, in this case we need fast and efficient support. In addition to a good storage service, of course.

1.  Click here to get the BlueHost New Year’s Sale price of $2.75 per month by January 1st and then click “get started now”.

Click here to get the special BlueHost

2. Select your option. The basic option is the one I recommend for new bloggers. Click on “Select” to choose your option.

4. If the domain name is unavailable, you will receive a list of similar domain names available. You can choose one of the suggested domains or type another name to try.

6. You will also need to choose the package and accommodation options.

  • The 36-month plan offers you the lowest monthly rate, so the 12-month plan has a lower initial cost. Both are a good choice.
  • uncheck the following boxes for other products when I register. You can always add these later if necessary.

7. Once your account is set up (usually a few minutes), you can log in by going to the BlueHost homepage and clicking on the login tab at the top. Enter your domain name and the password chosen during registration.

8. Now that you are logged in to the control panel of your account, we can install WordPress, which is the software you will use for your blog. First, close all pop-up windows. Then look under “Website” and click on the link “Install WordPress”.

You will now be automatically connected to Mojo Marketplace and directed to the WordPress installation page. Click on the “Install” button to start.

WordPress is now being installed! It should take a few minutes.

9. When the installation is complete, you can click “View Credentials” at the top of the page to see your login information. This information is only available when thinking 12 hours, so be sure to rate it in a safe place!

wordpress-install-7

You will also receive an email with your login information after the installation is complete.

Chapter 8: Become familiar with WordPress

If you followed the steps of this  blogger guide, I imagine that by now you will be installing your website with WordPress for the first time.

The hosting services that I named previously have the ability to install wordpress with just a couple of clicks which makes them very efficient.

If you are not familiar with WordPress, at the beginning, it can be a bit confusing.

Many options and several things to configure, but do not be scared because it is not as complicated as it seems.

Look at all the tutorials that may be necessary. You can not imagine the large amount of resources that Google and YouTube have to offer!

Chapter 9: Basic adjustments

There are some adjustments that should be made as soon as you start your own web in wordpress.

Why?

Because they are essential to have our page optimized.

Permalinks

The permalinks are the links that take you to a certain web page. Having them optimized from the start is important.

For that we go inside the wordpress menu to the Settings tab – Permalinks or permanent links, select the option post name or entry name and save the changes:

This will optimize all the addresses of the links that by default are very ugly and it is said, has an incidence within the web positioning.

Add title and meta description

It’s the basics Add the title of your website and a meta description that symbolizes what your website is and what it is about.

It can be done at any time but it is good to leave these kinds of things ready from the start.

Also, with time, you will probably be modifying these details and you will have to try and find the right title and description for your website.

Chapter 10: Install essential Plugins

The wordpress plugins are a great item to keep in mind.

There are thousands and they are capable of doing wonderful things.

Next I’ll give you a list of some of the most important plugins that you must install on your website.

These are the initial plugins that I install in each of my web pages:

Akismet Anti-spam

akismet-anti-spam

This plugin blocks all the spam that can be generated in the comments of your blog, in the entries and even to your email.

It is one of those plugins that can not be missing. Even some hostings, in the installation of WordPress already come with Akismet ready to enable.

Yoast SEO

Another of the essential plugins for your online site. Everything he will do for you … you do not give an idea!

Yoast SEO emerges as the basic and complete solution for:

Manage and improve the seo of our entries, pages and links.

YOAST-SEO

The features of this plugin are too many, to cover them all should do a separate post.

It has more than one million active installations and is the most recommended plugin for 90% of those who use wordpress.

Elementor PRO

Elementor, in my opinion, is one of the most impressive solutions for designing a web page.

Of course, in order to use it you must install a theme, but this page builder works with any theme you choose to put.

Elementor has competition, you can also use Beaver Builder or Divi .

elementor-pro

Elementor has competition, you can also use Beaver Builder or Divi .

Thrive Leads

Thrive Leads is a paid plugin, but you can not use it.

What does he do? You can create pop ups and other graphic elements that allow you to generate subscribers to your website.

That is the easiest way I have found to explain it.

Surely you have seen it in many places, those windows that invite you to subscribe to its newsletter to receive offers, news and news just by leaving your email. Also synchronize your email marketing service so that each subscriber you receive is added to your list.

Now … there are many plugins that do the same thing for free.

You must find what is best for you. Although, today, visual editors (like Elementor) already include this functionality to capture leads, however they do not include the ability to generate reports. Not for now.

Chapter 11: Security and backups

WordPress security is not an issue we should overlook.

It is very important that your site at least have the necessary standards to be protected.

All of us who have been involved in this have had “ugly experiences” in this sense. And more if you do not take care of yourself.

Whenever I start a new website I install Updraft Plus .

plugin-updraft-plus

Chapter 12: Decide on a theme for use your blog

We had not talked about web design yet!

Many people (before starting with their digital project) give great importance to the templates or themes they will use.

It’s normal, you want to design your site in your mind before you even begin.

The years have passed and today it is not so necessary to think about this. Especially if we are going to create a blog or put together a corporate website.

The time has changed.

generate-press-theme

As I said in my ebook (which you get with your blog record), there are many people who (to this day) waste time on ThemeForest trying to find the perfect template for their needs.

I learned that using a free or ultra-light payment template plus a good editor is the most powerful combination of all. What do I mean with ultra light? There are templates that bring a multitude of built-in plugins that make your website work worse, due to overload.

The best thing to do is get or buy a lightweight theme such as GeneratePress or  Astra (they come in free and paid versions).

GeneratePress Review: One of the best Theme for WordPress

Chapter 13: Create the pages of your website

Before starting to create content you should create the web pages that you will need. Think about its structure and what each of them can contribute.

Make them all share the same similarities and be easy for the user to navigate.

If you use a theme this will be easy to achieve, with the page builders as well.

Chapter 14: Make sure you have a mobile friendly site, design the mobile pages

If you have chosen to manage your website with just a wordpress template, you must choose one that is responsive.

If you have chosen to use the theme + layout combination you must edit and configure the three versions (desktop, tablet and mobile) so that they look good.

One would think that the page builder makes everything more tedious, can be. However, what everyone loves is that you can have control of absolutely all the details of each of your pages.

That is something insurmountable.

Chapter 15: Upload your sitemap to Search Console

Maybe you wonder what is a sitemap? Or maybe you’re wondering, what is Search Console?

I do not want to get into technical terms. Especially in this post that is designed to be your guide. But well …

The sitemap is the most direct way to tell Google what content we have on our page, what we want you to see and what not.

To upload the sitemap you must familiarize yourself with the Search Console. I leave you a tutorial of Search Console so that you understand everything that implies perfectly.

Chapter 16: Add attractive add-ons

This is totally up to choice.

Web pages and blogs should attract, and for that we should “beautify” them.

Add add-ons that make it a complete website, so to speak. There are many ways to do this and it will depend on what you are looking for.

I will give you some examples that I consider important and more if you are going to create a blog.

Popular posts at the end of the pages

Popular posts encourage the user to stay on the web and visit other links.

Not only does it “embellish” but it is done with a goal in mind.

Author’s Box
The author’s box is also (usually) placed at the end of the articles. It serves so that the user identifies and knows more about the person who has written it and maybe can follow it on social networks.

Colorful pictures

This is one of the elements that I like the most because it draws the user’s attention to give him a message.

Others

There are a billion elements and plugins that you can add to your website to make it more elegant.

You will find them everywhere.

What I want to highlight in this section is that we must consider this type of elements to make our site a unique space.

Chapter 17: Connect your website with Google Analytics

To be able to see the statistics of your website you must synchronize it with Google Analytics.

I do not know why but this synchronization is much more tedious than that of Search Console and our site.

The way I do it is through a plugin called Monsterinsights.

Not only does it allow me to see the statistics on the Analytics page but it also allows me to see some data within the same WordPress.

If it is difficult for you to connect your website with Analytics, I recommend using this plugin.

(Sometimes it may take a couple of days to recognize your data).

Chapter 18: Corroborate that everything works perfect

This, believe it or not, is one of the most important steps to build a perfect website.

Corroborate and corroborate.

You do not know the immense amount of pages of “professionals” that there are that are extremely neglected and with errors. And I’m also talking about professionals in the digital marketing sector.

You have to be like those who have the best digital marketing blogs. Try to solve all the problems you see and do not delay your solution.

The users noticed this kind of thing.

Chapter 19: Add share buttons on networks

Fundamental. Add buttons to share your articles on social networks.

To achieve this there are different plugins that offer different buttons, sizes, colors and functionalities.

I use AddThis on all my sites (although I am considering the change for Social Warfare).

agregar-botones-de-redes-sociales-addthis

Addthis allows you to create different types of buttons to put on your website, whether they are floating buttons or articles.

It also allows you to see data about the number of times users use these buttons.

Chapter 20: Blog and content

After all this, the time has come to talk about blogs. Just in point 20 of this guide for blogger I have touched what matters most. Our blog.

Creating the content of blogs will be the task that takes more time.  Designing the entire web and configuring it is usually done only once (although you will always be testing and redesigning different things).

Chapter 21: Select the most relevant posts to start

Surely you already have in mind what kind of content you want to create and what things you want to talk about.

I recommend you write them down and start planning that content. We can not accumulate all that information in our mind.

What are the pillars posts that will form the basis of your blog? What aspects do I want to talk about? What is the tone that I will use in the articles? What goals do I have with the creation of them?

These are questions that you should ask yourself.

Chapter 22: When you finish, start promoting it even if you have few posts

The idea is that each content you make is a source of pride.

And if you are proud then you must share it on social networks.

If you have configured a blog without errors (even if it is not complete) you must make your website known on social networks.

Think that the sooner you do it the faster you will be moving forward.

Social networks are the key place that will start generating some visits per month. Appearing in Google is difficult  and more if you are in a competitive or highly competitive niche.

Even so, if you manage to appear on Google, you will see it with the passage of time. The first six months usually get zero organic visits.

Chapter 23: Promote and share in communities of interest

Today  Facebook  serves only one thing,  for its groups . That is what I personally think. The beginning can not be seen anymore, we have bored of posting and it is absolutely full of publicity.

Facebook groups are a great tool that you must use to thrive in your sector.

Join communities that have an interest in what you write.

Chapter 24: Design catchy featured images

I love that the blogs I visit follow the same style. I do not know why it will be, I just know that they motivate me even more to read its contents.

If you have a blog you should consider creating unique featured images, designed specifically for your blog.

The idea is to make attractive images that are made with the mission of illustrating what your blog represents. Personalization is everything, and a first impression is also.

Chapter 25: Add an SSL certificate to your site to make it secure

This for me is another of those steps that can not be missing today.

In case you did not know  the SSL certificates  are those that enable your site to be a secure access site (and give them a green chip in the search engines). You pass from HTTP to HTTPS.

I’ve put it in place 25, but, honestly, it ‘s one of the first actions I do after installing wordpress.

I prefer to get this “problem” from above when I have few links and little content to start with the right foot.

Also, in hostings like  BLUEHOST  installing an SSL certificate  is EXTREMELY EASY.

Do you know what you have to do? Just press two buttons. Nothing else. Neither install a plugin nor redirect anything. They do it automatically.

To increase the security of your blog you can also change the access URL to your blog so that by default it is not your site / wp-admin [This step you can do it through a plugin]

Chapter 26: Keep all your plugins updated

Very important to avoid invaders entering your website.

Always have plugins that are constantly updated or that you absolutely trust your developers.

The plugins that are updated regularly are those that offer more stability because their updates also go hand in hand with the features that wordpress is adding over time.

Chapter 27: Optimize the speed of your website

Improving the loading speed for your website is important to you because Google takes it into account, and it is important for the user because he does not want to waste time waiting for your page to load.

That’s why there are a thousand plugins, web pages, options, add-ons and codes to  improve the loading speed .

Pingdom is one of the most used sites to check the loading of websites. It gives you specifications of what resources it takes to load more and many great details so that later you can investigate how to solve them.

Chapter 28: How to USE WORDPRESS For Your Blog RIGHT WAY

Once WordPress is installed on your site, you are ready to start blogging. In this step, I will show you just the basics to start with your new WordPress blog. The next step will show you some more advanced changes you can make to customize the design and structure of your blog.

wordpress-login

To begin, you must log in to your site. Go to http://www.mysite.com/wp-admin to have the login screen (replace “monsite.com” with your domain name). If you are unsure of the username or password, check the email that has been sent to you from BlueHost with this information.

Editing Your Blog Title

Once logged in, you will be in the WordPress admin area. This is where you will make the changes you want for your blog. For starters, you will probably want to change the title of your blog. To do this, go to the bottom of the menu on the left to click on “Settings”. This should lead you on this screen:

Here you can change your “Site Title” and also the subtitle, known as your “Slogan”. Enter what you want in these two boxes, then scroll down and click the “Save Changes” button.

Once these changes are saved, they will appear immediately on your site. To see what your site looks like at any given time, you can simply type your domain name in the browser and press Enter.

How to Write an Article

Blogging is a question of writing; so, we will learn how to write your first blog.

Go to the left menu and click on “Articles”. (Click on the image below for an enlarged version.)

write-a-post

You will already see an article entitled “Hello world! This is a default article on every new WordPress blog and we do not need it. To delete it click on “Trash” right under the article.

To start writing a new article, click on the “Add” link (in the left menu or next to the word “Articles”).

If you want to add an image to your article, click “Add Media” and “Choose Files” to download an image from your computer.

You can make adjustments to the size and alignment of the image on the next screen. Once done, click on “Insert in the article” to add the image.

Once your article is finished, simply click on the “Publish” button on the right side of the screen to publish it.

When you’re ready to delete this page, you can do this by logging into your blog and clicking on the link shown at the top.

Then?

Congratulations! You now know how to publish content on your site!

You will probably want to make some other changes to your blog as I describe in the next step, but none is absolutely necessary because your site is already online and ready for the world to access!

Chapter 29: Finaly Start Blogging!

Finally, we will arrive at the fun part!

Every successful blog respects some basic principles:

Steps for a successful blog

  • Great Content
  • A good Blog Configuration
  • Marketing

A good Blog Configuration

Keep in mind that being a good blogger is not just writing. You should also read other blogs to stay informed about trends and get new ideas for your blog.

You can visit a blog to see if it has a really interesting extension for your site. You can just ask the bloggers directly and they will tell you.

It’s a great way to improve your blog setup while connecting with the blogging community.

I can not stress enough that the steps I’ve already shown you are more than enough. If you want to make more changes in the future, that’s fine; but do not think about waiting for perfection before you start blogging, because your blog will still be under construction.

Great Content

The heart and soul of a successful blog is quality content. If no one wants to read your articles, then your blog will not succeed.

One of the easiest ways to write really engaging content is to answer a question you ask yourself in the field. Luckily, if you have a question, others too. Obviously, you will have to do some research to find the answer, but once that is done, you will provide valuable content that people really want and share with their friends.

For additional writing ideas, here is an excellent resource: http://weblogs.about.com/od/startingablog/tp/BlogPostIdeas.htm

It’s also important to keep in mind that quality content is much better than writing. Images, videos, different fonts and colors make your content catchy and interesting. Blogs are not books and need to have more than one block of text to keep readers interested.

Marketing

Even if your blog is well configured and you create great content, there is no guarantee that anyone will see it. Because of this, promoting your blog is really a requirement if you want to be a blogger.

In the next step, we will review various methods for promoting your blog to ensure that people really see your hard work.

Chapter 30: Starting to Promote Your Blog

Blog promotion is where I see most bloggers fail. There are several good bloggers who have never heard of, simply because they do not know how, or do not want to promote their blog.

The most important advice I can give you on promoting your blog is to not hesitate to talk to people!

I’ve heard many bloggers say that they do not promote their blogs simply because they do not think they’re promoting them. They say things like “I do not have enough articles yet” or “I have to work on the design of the site first”.

Do not do the same! If you have taken the time to set up a good site with quality content, then you have to talk to people about it. Be proud of your work.

So, how to promote your blog? Well, it turns out that the most effective methods of promotion are free!

1. Social networks

Chances are you already have a Facebook account and maybe even a Twitter account. When you post something on your blog, make sure you also share the link to your blog on your social accounts.

It also helps to get in touch with people interested in your subject. Send a friend request to bloggers in your niche and make sure you also follow them on Twitter.

You may be surprised at the number of people finding your article interesting and then sharing the link with their friends.

2. Comments on other blogs

On many blogs, you can leave a comment with a link to your own blog. If you make useful comments on blogs related to your subject, you will highlight your blog for people interested in your subject.

Warning! Do not abuse this method.

If you leave bad comments on the articles just to make your name known, it will hurt your blog. In addition, comments of low quality are likely to be deleted by the owner of the blog.

If you make a useful comment, people are more likely to visit your site to find out more about what you have to say on the subject.

3. Make links to other blogs

One of the best ideas for writing a blog post is to write a response to an article from another blog. This could be a blog post that you do not agree with or simply have something else to add to.
When you do, be sure to link to the blog. On most blogs this creates a “trackback”.

A trackback simply means that the blog to which you have created a link will also publish a link (automatically) to your blog. This means that anyone reading the other blog will also see the link to your blog and may click on it to visit your blog.

4. Guest post

Another way to make your blog known to readers of other blogs is to write guest posts.
To write a guest post, you simply need to contact other blog owners and offer to write an article for their site.

Not all bloggers are open to the idea; but if you can find some who are, it’s a good deal for everyone. You provide them with quality content, and in return you insert a link to your blog in the article. If people appreciate your article, then they are likely to visit your blog for more good content.

5. Online forums

If you do not have it already, you need to participate in popular online forums related to your topic. For example, if your blog is talking about dog training, join a group of popular dog training forums.

Many forums will allow you to post a link to your site in the signature at the bottom of every message you write. Some forums may constrain you to a few messages before allowing you to do so.

Once you have joined the forum, leave useful messages. Just like with blog comments, the content of the posts on the forum must be of good quality and useful. Nobody will want to read your blog if your posts on the forum are not considered useful and interesting.

6. Frequent publications

Previous promotion methods all focus on getting new readers for your blog. This is usually the most difficult step for a blog. However, you must also make sure that once the readers arrive on your blog, they come back!

Posting new articles frequently (at least once a week, but preferably every 1-2 days) is the key to building and maintaining a great follow-up.

Your content can be fantastic; but if you only publish once a month, people can forget about your blog. You have to find a balance between quality and quantity. It’s a difficult balance for any blogger, because it’s not always easy to write a quality article every day or every week.

If you are having trouble finding ideas for writing, review the previous step in this guide.

Then?

Now you have learned what you need to know to start your blog and attract readers to your site. For some bloggers, this is the end goal. They just want to have their ideas read and have the opportunity to participate in a community of like-minded people.

However, once you have developed a decent follow up, you can start making your blog profitable if you wish.

Conclusions of this bloggers guide

As you always see when we start a project we are going to have to do different things.

And that I have left many other elements out of the post.

There are many people who are paralyzed and locked thinking the ideal name for your website and do not imagine after the thousands of things that have to be configured.

TAKING ACTION is what will bring us closer to our desired website. There is nothing else that works, just work.

I hope this article serves for that, to set clear priorities and help people with their blogging path.

Over time (as I always say) I will be adding more details to this article in order to make it as complete as possible.
